Scars, wounds, cuts from the past. The songs on this album tell my personal story, but ultimately that doesn’t matter. What matters is that others can relate to it. This album recounts powerful moments in my life and how they resonate in my body, my being, my voice. I am made up of all the paths I have walked, the stones I have trodden on, the skies I have aimed for, the pain I have overcome, the waters that have soothed me, the joys that have filled me: it speaks of exile, violence, sharing, uprooting, failure, success, changes of direction, moments in Africa, sisterhood, love, arriving in Europe, the violence of being a woman, black, a musician, of broken dreams, of reality that surpasses dreams, about the happiness of being able to heal all these wounds and express all these joys through singing, working as an artist, author, composer, project manager and sharing it with others, both in private and on stage. It’s a record about love. These scars from the past are filled with dreams, gifts from life and love, and are translated into the sound that comes out of my body and says who I am. Singing saved me, these scars are now my strength.
